Yes, he’s done it; Oscar has sealed his move to Chelsea after a series of mind games with the press. Despite having undertaken a medical with the club, Oscar has kept the fans in a cloud of doubt as to whether he would sign for Chelsea or not. The mind games have been going on for past couple of days. Chelsea had agreed a deal with the Brazilian club Internacional for £ 25 million a few days ago.
The club, as expected, have not disclosed the transfer fee. They have also not disclosed any details regarding the length of his contract, but he is thought to have signed a five-year deal with the 2012 European Champions.
Oscar was initially linked with Tottenham, but the club has rubbed into the noses of our former manager Andre Villas-Boas by securing his signature. Apart from Neymar, he is regarded as the next big thing in Brazilian football. Of course, there have been many players, who have come to Europe, with this tag. Only time will tell whether Oscar proves to be the real deal or not. Because of the £ 25 million outlay, Chelsea’s spending has now crossed the £ 50 million mark.
“If I go to Chelsea it will be a dream come true. They are one of the greatest teams in Europe. I am confident I will have a good Olympics and, if I go to Chelsea, I will arrive feeling good.”
The 20-year-old will now be joining the club after the end of the London Olympics 2012. With very little pre-season with his new teammates under the belt, it will be interesting to see how Oscar gels with the team.
“Chelsea football club is delighted to announce the signing of Oscar. A 5ft 10in (1.79m) attacking midfielder who can play wide, he has a reputation for good pass-and-move football, protecting the ball and choosing the right moment to play passes.”
It will also be interesting to see if Oscar is the last of the attacking signings Chelsea make in the transfer window. There has been no action taken in terms of signing defenders.
