Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £27 million deal to bring Fabregas from Barcelona. According to Spanish tabloid Marca, the blues will be paying this fee, which will increase depending upon future performances and trophies.
Jose Mourinho recently stated that he wants to sign Fabregas. This has been immediately followed by this report on Marca and several other Spanish tabloids. Mourinho said that it was highly unlikely that an official announcement could come before the World Cup.
Fabregas is expected to sign a four-year contract and the 27-year-old has been offered £160,000 per week as wages. This is a substantial improvement over the £110,000 per week he earns at Barcelona.
Even though the wages are slightly on the higher side, the transfer fee represents an incredible value for such a quality player. Barcelona fans have been unhappy with his performances, but there is little surprise seeing Fabregas at the top of the assists charts.
Of late, he has been adding goals to his game as well. Even though he is yet to come close to the 15 goals scored in the 2009-10 season at Arsenal, he averages around 10 league goals a season.
His presence will also take some pressure off Oscar, who is probably the best number 10 in the team.
Following Fernando Torres, Azpilicueta has also come in support of the move by saying that Chelsea lack a player like Fabregas. He said:
“Cesc is a great central midfielder with plenty of experience in the Premier League. In my personal opinion, he’s a special player. Few teams have this kind of player in their team, a central midfielder who gets forward really well and has great vision of the game, while there are also his statistics, which speak for themselves.
“He can adapt to various positions. Right now, we don’t have a player like Cesc at Chelsea.”
