West Brom were the favourites to get Victor Moses on loan deal, but it appears that Liverpool have won the race to sign the Nigerian international. According to the Guardian, Liverpool have agreed a season long loan deal with Chelsea for Moses. Liverpool will be paying £1 million as a loan fee. The news isn’t official yet, but Guardian are a well-informed and trust worthy (to certain extent) paper.
The plethora of attacking midfielders at Chelsea has forced Moses on the fringes. He is yet to make a first team appearance this season. More worryingly, he has not been in the squad itself for a couple of matches.
Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi said to Thisday:
“I don’t know the plans of Jose Mourinho but sincerely am worried at the continued lack of action for Moses. The boy wants to play, he loves to play and it hurts that he is not playing because we need him to be playing week in, week out.”
If you are going to send him out on loan, then why not send him to a club like West Brom where he is likely to get more first-team opportunities. Liverpool have made a strong start to the season and they look like capable of finishing in the top four. Why strengthen such a team with a good player like Moses? It just doesn’t make sense at all. It is right up there with some of the weirdest transfer activity Chelsea have made this summer.
Liverpool reportedly have no option to buy him permanently, but it is hard to see Moses being a Chelsea player in a few years time.
