Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has dropped a bomb by admitting that he is NOT happy at Stamford Bridge – just under six months after coming from Inter Milan for a club record fee of £97.8 million. Lukaku was signed as the missing piece in the jigsaw and he was seen as someone who could make Chelsea as the ultimate team under Thomas Tuchel.
The Belgian international has scored bucketload of goals during his two years with Inter Milan. Even though his second innings at Chelsea started positively, the last few months have been very difficult for the striker in terms of his goals, fitness levels, and game time. Chelsea have gone from being the favourite for the Premier League title in the FA’s accumulator bets to an outsider after managing just four wins in the last 10 league matches.
According to Sky Sports Italy, Lukaku has hinted that he may very well come back to Inter Milan even when he is at his prime. He said:
“Physically I am fine. But I’m NOT happy with the situation at Chelsea. Tuchel has chosen to play with another system – I won’t give up, I’ll be professional.
“I have always said that I have Inter in my heart: I know I will RETURN to Inter, I really hope so.”
Lukaku has been hit by a couple of injury problems and he also tested positive for coronavirus. Despite all the setbacks, the striker scored in back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Brighton. However, the next few weeks could be very damaging for the blues, who are running very light on the squad due to multiple injuries and players testing positive for the coronavirus.
More than the usual setbacks, Lukaku will be especially worried about the style of play that Chelsea adopt under Thomas Tuchel. There is less focus on the centre forward to score the goals. This effectively means that the midfielders and wingers are not too inclined to the ball into the box or find the striker at the earliest opportunity. Three out of the top four scorers at Chelsea this season are either defenders or midfielders.
Jorginho and Mason Mount have been the top scorers with nine and seven goals each, while even defender Recce James is not far away from scoring the same number of goals as Lukaku. This lack of dependence on a physical centre forward means that Lukaku has not been playing to his strengths. At Inter Milan, the 28-year-old was quick to receive the ball at the earliest opportunity and this was a significant factor behind his return of 24 league goals in just 36 Italian Serie A matches last season.
Amidst a lot of news about Erling Haaland’s potential departure from Borussia Dortmund, it would not be too surprising to see Lukaku cut short his spell with Chelsea once again and head back to Inter.
