As expected, Romelu Lukaku has completed his loan move to West Bromwich Albion. The 19-year-old striker has been linked with a few Premier league clubs over the last couple of weeks after failing to break into the Chelsea first team last season. Fulham were the favourites until last week, but West Brom have secure the signing of the highly rated Belgian youngster.
Romelu Lukaku started the pre-season in fine form after scoring two great goals in the 4-2 win over Seattle Sounders. However, he has been disappointing in the subsequent games and it seems that he still needs a lot of regular football in order to develop.
He will be under the guidance of a former blue in the form of Steve Clarke, who has taken over at West Brom in the summer. West Brom manager Steve Clarke said,
“I’m delighted to welcome Romelu to the club.
“He’s a strong, powerful centre-forward who is young, enthusiastic and eager to learn. He was also desperate to come here.
“With the calibre of strikers Chelsea have got, he’s found it difficult to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge.
“We’re more than happy for Romelu to continue his development with us. I am sure he will be a big help to the squad over the course of the season.”
Lukaku’s exit from the club means that Roberto di Matteo has only two options when it comes to the strikers – Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge. Even with the attacking depth in the squad, having just two strikers for the entire season is going to be extremely risky. Roberto di Matteo would like to bring in another striker before the end of the transfer window.
Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Andre Schurrle, who will cost in the region of £ 25 million.
Lukaku needs a first team experience. if he plays regular for the Baggies, then a return to Chelsea will make a big difference for the club. i consider him a future Drogba in the Making.
