Ivan Toney recently admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that he could leave Brentford in January. The Bees stood by Toney during his eight-month ban for breaching betting rules, but the 27-year-old is open to offers.
He said: “You can never predict when is the right time to move elsewhere, but I think it’s obvious I want to play for a top club. Everybody wants to play for a top club, that is fighting for titles. Whether it’s this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows?”
Toney has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, as both clubs need a prolific centre-forward, but is he worth signing?
Chelsea desperately need a centre-forward

Mauricio Pochettino has Nicolas Jackson, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku who can lead the line, but it’s not enough. Jackson has only one goal in his last eight league appearances while Broja has two goals all season (17 games).
Nkunku has struggled with injuries in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, so Pochettino needs an alternative. Jackson has occasionally moved out wide in games while Broja could be sold for the right price in January. Pochettino has lost trust in both players, so Toney would be a good upgrade when looking at his statistics.
Toney is a proven goalscorer

The England international joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020, scoring 68 goals with 21 assists from 124 games. Toney netted 49 goals with 15 assists from 94 games for his former club too, so he’s a proven goalscorer. Since Brentford were promoted to the Premier League in 2021, Toney has scored 33 goals in 67 top-flight games.
He bagged 20 goals from 33 league games last season, outperforming all apart from Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. To be ninth for shots taken per game (2.8) but third for goals scored is impressive. Toney is the kind of striker Chelsea need, somebody that can hold the ball up. He scored on his return for Brentford and was named Player of the Match, so Toney he worth it?
In other news, Armando Broja could leave Chelsea permanently in January
